The Secrets Begin
While the sun was dancing in the sky, three secrets were given to the children. Until Lucia’s writings were officially published, the three secrets were presumed to be as follows:

The First Secret
A terrifying vision of hell on Earth

The Second Secret
When you next see the night lit up by the great unknown light, know that it is a sign God gives you, of the punishment of the world, by another war, famine and persecution, of the holy church and the Holy Father

The Third Secret
Mary instructed Lucia to deliver a third secret to the Pope, who was to reveal it in 1960. This secret was not published until after the year 2000.[1]

The vision of hell, was the first case where Mary relayed a vision of a Great Chastisement to befall mankind. Since then, a number of Mary’s visionaries have seen the same thing. Initially, it was believed to be a vision of the atrocities of the Second World War, or a hell under the Earth where sinners go. Certainly, the Nazi death camps and the effects of the atomic bombs dropped on Japan would comply with a scene of hell. Secret number two is still considered to be a mystery. Secret number three, as it has now been interpreted by the Vatican, was a depiction of the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II in 1981.
In order to understand the reason for Mary’s appearance on Earth in the present day, you need to accept Her role as the one who has previously announced the coming of Her Son Jesus. Gabriel appeared to only Her before the birth of Jesus 2,000 years ago. It was She and only She who made the announcement of His inception to the world. Just as the Blessed Mother delivered Him then, so in essence She is doing so again, only this time it is the Second Coming.
If this is so, then all of the secrets must relate to what is going to happen immediately before His return. As such, there is yet to come a time on Earth when conditions will be as close to hell as anyone could imagine. A few years ahead of this conflagration, a warning will be given. An “unknown light” will be seen in the sky. A confirmation of the timing of secrets was to be made with the revelation of the third secret in 1960. None of the Fatima secrets would be experienced until after this time.
